Brake Booster

Post by JodyStevens »

Did someone delete my brake booster thread? It seems to have disappeared. I'm just looking for someone to confirm that there is a metal plate holding a rubber boot sandwiched between the booster and the black chassis part. See photo.

Some replies on T.Hanson's glove box latch topic disappeared as well.

I recently installed a booster, but there was no plate or other part in between the booster and the black tunnel on the chassis. But some PO had their hands on those parts before, so I can't say if it should be that way or not. And my E12 has an a-typical set-up with a small booster, apparently used (only?) on '76 528.

Perhaps your booster is not original and some adaptations are made? Did the brake pipes line up nicely with the master cylinder?

I noticed the same thing, to include another post, query about replacing the front door retention strap. Which I have now accomplished, to answer my own questions.

And pass along to others, if the mystery judge of relevance and solution seekers meet in some future post.

Thanks guys. Anyone else with a full size booster willing to take a look for me? This is the big booster(I wanna say ATE T51?) . Don't have to do anything but take a look and let me know.

I should have taken a photo, but I have so many parts it may have gotten mixed up but I don't remember. The brake pedal hooked up fine. I had all the lines out and the master out so I'm not sure.

I looked at the booster pot in my '79 528i. The assembly plate and gasket on the bolts match your photo. Close as I could see, there are no other plates or gaskets in the mix to be unseen.

What the heck. Start 'er up, test the pedal feel. Maybe put a pillow where an air bag would be. Dump the clutch. If the brakes work you're done.

If not, push it back off the trash cans and try another arrangement.

I don't remember any of that when I took mine off the M535i, but it was also filled to the hole with brake fluid, so take what you want from that. Maybe the parts in question are still stuck to it. I need to find a replacement though.

Edit: yes, I have that plate in that configuration. Also, there is a plate that hangs off the bottom two studs with a stud in it. Not sure what connects there.

I don't have an example here currently, but yes If I recall correctly there should be a plate (which holds two rubber boots) screwed onto the brakebooster studs. The rubber is for guiding the two rubber fuel lines.
