Do I have OCD or is it just me

Post by neetyrom »

Hey guys been a while since i've been on here, got a lot of the work done on the car, i.e. up grading to steel-braided brake hoses and meticulously rebuilding my calipers.
Seems that since i have finally gotten every thing straightened out I almost want there to be a problem on the car to fix.
Thats when i realized my right foot has been hurting/throbbing from constant vibrations on the acceleration pedal of my car. Does anyone know where to even begin to solve what is going on here, if there is anything going on at all.

Again just to clarify, the acceleration pedal of the car is constantly vibrating or something else may be the problem, i.e. I haven't aligned it yet, but i don't think that has anything to do with it as in the car itself doesn't even shake as much as just the acceleration pedal. btw the clutch and the brake pedals seem to be in perfect working condition.
any pointers or help works

Not particularly on the gas pedal, but vibration tends to be caused by driveshaft issues. Anything from the guibo to the center bearing to the actual u joints themselves. Is it speed and load dependent?

yes very much so, at low rpm's 1-3k i can hear a churning noise if you will from the underside of the cabin. at 3-5k vibrations are present particularly on the gas pedal, i really want to get to the bottom of this because it makes the ride for the driver kind of unpleasant. At speed 75+ nothing is present.

Just from here it sounds like a stiff U joint. BMWs have U joint problems opposite of what you might expect, they get stiff with age and impart vibration, especially on takeoff. Eventually they get loose, but for quite a while they are in the tight, vibration mode. It's a PITA, but check by taking out the driveshaft and feeling for notchiness. There will be some, but it should be relatively smooth. Of course you also have to take the D/S apart to check the forward one, so mark it before you do separate the halves.
