upper timing case removal
Any pitfalls or unique processes to removing the upper timing case to reseal it? Looks pretty straightforward in the repair manual. The water pump and thermostat are already off, looks like remove the valve cover and distributor then the timing cover. I'm assuming the large nut on the face of the cover is the timing chain tensioner piston. Does this come off with the cover?

Upper timing cover shouldn't have a large nut on it, just the distributor and 6MM bolts, 10MM bolt heads. Unless you're talking a motronic head.

You don't have to take the water pump off.PatinaBeforePolish wrote:Any pitfalls or unique processes to removing the upper timing case to reseal it? Looks pretty straightforward in the repair manual. Six bolts horizontally and two vertically in the top cover. No big nut on the "face" in any version of the M30. If you're talking about the plug on the side of the lower case which is for the tensioner, that isn't removed if you're needing to reseal the upper case. If you are also removing the lower case as well, then you will have to remove the tensioner and a lot more.
