Amsoil Motor Oil

Post by Jcat »

Looking to see if any of you have experience with this stuff. I thought I would check with you all first as I understand it is the only oil that has zinc in it. I guess Rotella took out their zinc a few years back. Any thoughts? I am currently using 15/50 Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic on my 170K mile 81 528i. If you have other suggestions or endorsements, let me know. Thanks everyone!

I've used it on all my cars since the early nineties, one of them was a 93 Toyota hilux with 3.0 V6. I sold that truck to a friend in 1999 with 145,000 miles, and last year, with 366,xxx miles, we replaced it with a Toyota V8 conversion. The 3.0 was taken apart and resealed but main, rod, rings and other wear parts where reused. Current Tacoma 4.0 used Amsoil since new now has 200.XXX miles and perfect.

As far an E12, I use the high Zinc Amsoil (Z-rod) but that's because the previous owner started way back then and figure stick to it. But if it was another high end high zinc stuff then I would stayed with that. I love Amsoil but it's not the only polymer high end oil available, and powerful detergents can start leaking if not resealed... cheers

Thats good enough for me. One clarification if you dont mind... are you saying the Amsoil Z-rod has a lot of detergent? and what weight do you run with? I think 15/50 is supposed to be the best. Thoughts?

sorry for late response, z-rod is a high zinc oil, Zinc is good for lubrication of older engines. I'm pretty sure I'm using 15w50, I'll double check it when I stop by storage tomorrow...

cheers
