Oil leak on exhaust manifold side of engine

Post by pmaronoff »

I have an oil leak on the right side of the engine block. There is a spring loaded device that keeps the oil from draining from the top of the engine back into the crankcase when the engine is shut off. The leak appears to be coming from that area. Does anyone know the name and hopefully the part number? I searched Maximillian put could not find it. Thank you in advance.

Sounds like you're talking about the timing chain tensioner. At the front? Looks like this?

It keeps the timing chain properly tensioned, and yes, that area is a common one for leaks. Usually not too big, but enough to at the least be irritating. It may or may not be it alone, or it might be the timing cover gasket or even the head gasket in that area. IIRC it's the same size as an early oil drain plug, 22MM I think it is.
