Hi folks,
My E12 ('73 520) is of the 4cyl variety, but I am hopefully buying an M20 2-litre dual-carb engine from a long-dead '77 320.
It is complete from fan to clutch, has less than 60k miles and has been stored indoors for the past 12 years.
I would appreciate any suggestions on stuff to check for before I hand over the cash.
Cheers,
Craig

If it floats, flies, or giggles in bed, it's cheaper to rent than to own.

Make sure it still turns over, but with compression on every cylinder. It could be rusted and seized, even indoors, rings could be seized. Hard to really tell, but make sure it turns over.

"Pray" lol!
Well, I picked it up today. Figuratively speaking, of course - it's an effin ton.
It has dual Zenith carbs and less than 60k miles, according to the seller. Grimy dirty, but has been stored in a heated garage for the past 12 years. I spun the clutch and the crank turns pretty easily. Still full of oil, too.
Tomorrow I'll try to get the serial number off the engine. I can't find any references to an E21 M20B20 motor with dual Zeniths, but wikipedia does list that setup as stock for the 520/6... Which would be awesome, imho.
Cheers,
Craig
