We're running the 79 528i that we built up back in 2010 for the 24 hours of lemons. After the 2010 race, we gave up on the stock motor with 286k miles and purchased the turbo motor out of Frank Fahey's 633CSI. The motor has a nice oil baffle in the pan, but coming around the hard right handers at Buttonwillow, we were experiencing a SEVERE drop in oil pressure (down to 0 psi on the autometer gauge). The motor wasn't knocking or giving any weird noises, but its a little disheartening. We also hooked up the oil pressure light and it would come on in some of the turns too...
Do we need to go with a new oil pump? Is there a replacement pump that is good for our application?
Btw, you can track some of our progress at lappingforleukemia.com
Thanks

This was an interesting discussion on mye28. Starts just at the bottom of page one. They talk about oil starvation under hard cornering in the m30 because oil stays in the head.
