rotors for 1980 m535i??? What to buy?

Post by 2002jm »

I am thinking about going through the brakes on the m535i. I have read that the 733, or is it the 735 rotors are the same. So do I just order brake rotors for a 1980 733? And do I order the pads for the 733?
thanks for any help,
jm

Look it up on Realoem, see what it's interchangable with, and order it up. I want to think M535 rotors are thicker and maybe unique, but I can't remember for sure. They may be a dealer item only in this country, if so look for Tischer or I think Blunttech can get all dealer parts too. Your local dealer is likely to be very expensive on this if they even want to deal with it at all.

Yes, the m535i is unique in regards to e12. rotor is thicker, but I keep reading that they used the 7 series rotor. So, it should be possible to order the same year 7 series, since that is the year they could use, and it would be a lot cheaper....but I am not sure. Will keep checking...
thanks for the info.

Rotors seem to be 25 vs 22mm. Interesting, I find on BMWfans that both 25 and 22 are listed for the same caliper? That would imply that it is an easy upgrade to use the thicker rotors, right?

spacer for m535 thanks for the information

Post by 2002jm »

I think the m535 has a spacer or something, because it uses the thicker rotor. I need to find some that does not need to be shipped from Germany:)

Is this what you're looking for, 280x25mm rotors?

It is my understanding the caliper difference is a spacer, but Realoem doesn't show that. I suppose they could have used a slightly thinner pad, 1.5MM each side would be no big deal, but it looks like the pads are the same too.

This is very helpful. Did not want to order the wrong rotor, because of the cost of shipping:).

Even better news

Post by 2002jm »

I was thinking I would have to buy these from some company that would charge a small fortune....rotors are really heavy. Thanks again to all of you that helped.
My car will be so much better with new rotors and some rad. hoses.
