HIGH BEAM FUSE

Post by greenspace »

I have a reoccurring issue with my high beam fuse. It gets very hot and tends to melt/distort the torpedo fuse and also loosens the cradle that holds the fuse firm, eventually leading to a contact issue. My high beams are very bright which I always assumed was causing the heat. Anyone have any advice or knowledge they can share? I am using the recommended red 16 amp fuse and to be clear the fuse is not blowing.

What kind of fuses are you using? Plastic? If so get some ceramic ones, not glass ones, they melt the solder inside instead of the fuse link. Ceramic, retension the fuseholder and go.

What kind of headlights are you running? Not high wattage H1/H4s on both sides I hope?

Thanks Mike! They must be plastic. I will seek out the ceramic ones and replace with those. I was nervous when retentioning the cradle, afraid i may break it but they seem pretty tough. Have you ever broke one? I dont believe the outside lamps are high wattage, just the high beams. They are the lights that were in the car when I bought them and WOW are they great to drive with at night.

Heat means electrical resistance and/or high current. You say that the lights are very bright - maybe the bulbs are too powerful?
Also try to keep the contact surface of the fuses and holder clean.
