Guibo differences

Post by T.Hanson »

The September 1980 633 has a guibo in it that's flatter looking, different from the '81 and '79 528's.

First, with a drive shaft out, I assume it's a good idea to replace a mystery guibo (when last replaced) no matter the visual inspection.

Second, are both styles interchangeable ? Plumper bagel and slightly flatter ?

I think the latter is the A/T one and is a different thickness. If thickness is the same I like to use the latter one much better, it doesn't expand and you don't need to play games with hose clamps to get it back on after the first install. See the band around the first one? You can't do that but need to for reinstallation.

Right arm. Right on. The latter is what's there, between the five speed and drive shaft. Must be the same thickness, upgrade, alternative to the former bagel. Anyway, if it worked and fit, I'll replace it with itself.

I've been there, doing the guibo squeezer without the strap. I used a great big channel locks. And told the women and children to go in the house.

Tom,

I have the fatter one I can send you. I converted to a custom one for the project. Call me if you want it. Look up the number on odometergears.com so I don't get telemarketing calls.

It happens the (newer ?) design came out of an '81 633 5 speed. Looks fine, as one I saved of the older, thicker design that fits a '79 635, 528i 4 speed, '81 5 speed. I know that from direct visual comparison, buying new over the years if replacing.

Anyway, thank you for the offer but I have two. I only hope you don't retire before I get the 120 m.p.h. speedo to you for a needle attachment, swap.
