530i Hoodlatch Mechanism...can't get cable to work properly

Post by canada karl »

Hopefully someone has had this mechanism apart. Driving me nuts trying to get the hood to pop. If you look in in the Realoem diagram E12 530i Engine Hood Mechanism ....Part #9 "nipple"...does this part go inside #10 the Hood Lock with the narrow part sticking thru the cable hole?
Also what is the function of part #5 clamp and #4 clamp?

Yes, this holds it in the hole and prevent it from slipping through.

I haven't had to take this system apart, but if i had to guess they are brackets holding the the cable to the release mechanism on to the plastic handle.
