E28 exhaust gaskets for my E12- is this recommended?

Post by cpalmer »

Hey Everybody,

I asked about exhaust gaskets for my 78' about a month ago while I was on a trip from Portland up to Seattle.

It's slowly gotten louder over time and I realized after a 3 or 4 hour drive I am left with a headache and I also know if not taken care of it can cause compression problems.

So, I am hoping to take care of it soon and was googling it here and found some older post about how gaskets for the E28 are better as they have the heat shields built into them and are not separated and on top of them. like for the E12 and will fit.

Anyone have any knowledge about this? It sounded like it would be a good call, just wondering.

Thanks!

I think they'd fit a 528i, but a 530 with thermos I'm not so sure. Take a peek though, see how much they have to go up before making the bend over. They will bolt up to the head just fine, that isn't the problem, just if they will clear the thermos. I don't know if they're any better or worse, just different and cheaper in the assembly process.

Thanks Mike, once again.

I'll stick with the originals.
