Thanks for sharing! E12 seems to be a solid car :). Would be possible to lose a big amount of weight :) Offtopic maybe, but do you know some ABS-plastic or fiberglass parts for the e12?
Thanks.

Not sure about plastic or ABS.

Such parts are not legal for my class (street prepared)

Nice! What have you done in terms of weight reduction?

Wow, that's light. What isn't on it, A/C for starters I assume?

No AC, one race seat. 19 lb battery in trunk. And I don't weigh anything either

Light exhaust too.

I'm in the middle of a little weight reduction myself. Mind if I ask how far you've gone with it to get that low?
I don't have a scale to weigh what I've taken off, But so far it's just the bumpers, bumper shocks, sound deadening, and sunroof motor. I was surprised the front seats felt like they were at least 50lbs each!

If you don't need them, ditch the seats and go light weight race. Don't forget the rear seat. Each part (back rest and seat) weighs about 20lb. The trunk lid weighs 29 lb and I manufactured a fibre glass one that weighs 7 lb. If you can find someone to make you a fibre glass bonnet, that would be great. I haven't weighed it, but it must be north of 70 lb.

Spare tyre can go and then you can put the battery in there for low COG. Carpet, underlay, fittings. If you don't need seats, you don't need seatbelts. They are a couple of pounds each. Harness was lighter for sure.

I scraped out 40 lb worth of sound deadening from the inside as well. If you are really excited, scrape the underside clean as well. Dad and I scraped off all the oil, grease and dirt around the engine and tranmission. 10 lb!

The 520i weighs in at 2530 lb with a quarter tank. 2770 lb with me in it though!

Cheers

That's a light e12! I'm shooting for around 2900-3000lbs. We'll see what else I can let go after that. By the way Pete how are you liking the states? I enjoy your blog team orange. Any plans for bringing the e12 to the states or are you going to start over on another project?

I'm limited to what I can legally remove from the car for my class. :(

Another race seat and remove evaporator (pain) and maybe lighter wheels at some point

Here's an unusual view from Sunday:
