528i from Portugal - First problem

Post by E12-528i »

Hello,

I´m hugo i have 32 and i have a BMW E12 528i .

Im having a problem that i will describe to see if someone can help me.

I will copy here a text i wrote on a email to several friends of mine to see if they could help me, saves me to write all over again:roll:

Here is my problem :

" I have a BMW E12 528i with L-jetronic system. The car was bougth by me a few weeks a go with a problem in the engine, it had the engine dismounted becuse of a water problem. We put the engine together today and something is wrong. The car idle with no problem but when we try to accelerate it dies or chokes. The only way we can put the car in higher rotation is to kick the trotle body very quickly, and the he reves perfecty from 3000rpm to 6000tpm.

Do u have any idea of the cause of this situation? MAF? ECU? Any rubber pipe, anything, im up for ideias. I dont want to buy new parts that will
not resolve the problem."

Hope someone here can help me.... i want to drive my new car hehehe

Best regards

It's a little hard to say, but I'll hazard a guess. It sounds to me like you might have a problem with the vacuum advance on the distributor. Or, you possibly have a vacuum leak somewhere. Finally, did you check the timing upon restarting the engine?

Keep us posted,

Check all your hoses it sounds like one of them is sucking air from some where check intake boot, intake runner gaskets throttle gasket. Make sure your dip stick is all the way in or ill run bad. If you have some carb cleaner while the car is on spry on your air hoses if one is leaking air you'll notice the difference how the car runs, be careful not to spry the distributor or anything with electricity so it wont catch on fire thats the last thing you need.

Well im starting to go mad with the car. We checked a lot of things.

The car has a new fuel pump, a new fuel filter, a new pressure regulator... and nothing. The car continues to idle, poorly but idles, and when we try to accelerate it dies... Something is sending a wrong information to the ecu, the only thing i´ve not tested its the AFM, but i dont think that a bad AFM does this.

Still hoping someone here could help me. Starting to give up...

A bad AFM may not do this but have you checked the connection that plugs in to the AFM? That could be causing your problem...
