Hey everyone,
I've noticed recently when I take-off from a stop in my '77 530i, I hear a soft, rubbery *tink* sound coming from the front end. Whenever it happens, I can also feel it very well through the steering wheel. So, I'm thinking it's something steering-related. When I looked underneath the car, I didn't see any noticeable problem areas though. The other thing that struck me as odd was that it's doing it when I take-off rather than when I'm turning, which I think a steering bushing would do if it was causing problems (i.e. from binding and letting go). It's also only doing it from a stop. So, it might be some kind of forward-reverse directional movement in the suspension/steering causing the sound/feel. Has anyone had a similar experience or have a clue what it could be? Thanks.

Adam,
You mention only on acceleration have you tested if it occurs when you accelerate the engine in neutral or park. Just thinking it could be drive line related and happens when torque is applied. And could cause some feel in the wheel.
I have a rebuilt steering box in the garage if you need it down the road.
