Post by ole Hank »

Oil pressure idiot light flickers at idle ... , then off at higher rpm. Checked oil ... slight foaming or bubbles present on dipstick ( not over-filled ) Line of attack ?

Foaming doesn't sound right. I've never seen it. First step if the light comes on when it shouldn't though is always a new OP switch. Past that, what weight oil etc. Even on very high mileage engines I've never had the light come on at idle, even in the desert with the A/C cranking. Take forever to go off on winter mornings, but once off, it's stayed off.

Danger!! Check the oil filler cap for brownish mush before you wipe it clean. You might need at least a head gasket. How long since the head's been off? If this condition is brand new, you might be sorta lucky. I hope so. Wait for the big dogs to chime in though.
Did you check my post about the BMW run? I had a blast!
Good Luck,,,,Greg

The oil pressure sender looks like a sawed off spark plug, back of the engine by the firewall. Skunky things can leak or, once in a blue moon, blow their tops altogether.

As for foamy oil, water or coolant is the usual suspect for tiny bubbles, but they typically also make the mixture look milky, cloudy.

Anyway, I might do an oil change soon, or at least not log many miles hoping the foam will lubricate as normal.

Back of the head on the intake side.
