Last try: Jerky throttle

Post by T.Hanson »

I'm going in, it's driving me bats. Pedal is way too sensitive: Tap on it in second and it bucks, jerks, including my gas foot, which doubles everything down.

Yes I can drive it, with clutch, gas pedal precision, but that's like pounding the trunk to get the tail lights on.

Checked all vacuum lines, grounds, swapped AFM, timed correctly, set idle switches, new fuel pump(s), pressure regulator. Throttle body rebuilt, set as per FAQ. New linkage bushings, throttle switches set correctly. I'll do it all again if necessary.

Distributor first ? My spares are all from '79, '80, '81, which I believe are all the same.

So weird. My '79 is normal, smooth, reasonable pedal, clutch, four speed.

T.,
Did you check your vacuum advance mechanism attached to the distributor like I discussed in an earlier post? I would certainly do that. If it's not smooth, it will produce the effect you are experiencing.

edit: try disconnecting the vacuum advance, and plug temporarily the hose going to the intake manifold and go drive it. That will tell you if it's the culprit or not.

Thank you. I assume with the vacuum line plugged it won't vacuum advance, or something, not jerk ?

Whatever, I'll try it tomorrow and experience learning.

And if that's it, then swap in a spare, time it etc., with luck it will be good.

Again, I believe the two I have are '79-'81, all interchangeable.

Please don't die or lose interest. You're one of the last wizards.
