What might these have been for?

I've been combing through my recently acquired m535i and in the trunk I noticed some metal plates bolted to the floor. The metal plates closest to the rear seat aren't holding anything, in the trunk or underneath the car, and the other metal plate seems about useless as well. Would they have been used for a sound system?

That is probably it. Kinda difficult to understand why someone would do that to a car like this, oh well... I have other body work ahead of me already. Thanks
