Oil chain tensioner bearing bolt

Post by anthony »

In conversion to m30b35 I went to install the oil chain tensioner from the donor e32, and found the bearing bolt does not exist on the b34 block nor is there a port or a hard spot.

Trying to find clues at REALOEM it appears the early models 3.5 did not have a oil chain tensioner.

Does this make sense?

Update. searched mye28.com makes lots of sense. Chain is shorter and shims are used to hold tension in chain.

With chain tensioner

I've always just used the shim. It's a short chain, I doubt you would ever have a problem without a shim, but they're cheap.
