e12 and e24 strut difference

Post by fidosd9 »

while building back the suspension on my 78 530 i was replacing shock towers from ones out of a 79 635 euro and when came to install the bearings and hub using the e12 bearings and hub the bearings would not go all the way in.. The bearings hub and shock tower are different so i go on realoem and see that e12 use part number 31311116937 and 31311116938 for shock towers and see that the e24 goes up tp 6/78 with the same shock tower then bmw replace them with part number 31311122151 and 31311122152 up to 9/82 which are only found on 6/78-9/82 633 usa e24 and e12 535i and all euro e24 6/78 to 9/82 just something new i found out.

Yeah, IIRC they went to E23 sized wheel bearings after the first year or two. I think the assembly would still bolt up though.
