If the Fuel Pressure Regulator were to fail......
what would the start up symptoms be like? ie. CSV would run engine for a brief time then it would stall out? Is there a way to test the FPR?
fpr
I just put a fuel pressure gauge on the cold start fuel line. Should be approx. 35 psi. Inside of the vacuum line on the fpr should be dry not wet. An obvious symptom is wet spark plugs. One time, I suspected the fpr, so I took the fuel pump fuse out and the car finally started and ran for four seconds. Before that, no amount of new parts thrown at it would make it even catch once. The fpr gauge is a must have tool to trouble shoot fuel injected engines.
Make a gauge out of a water pressure gauge and a barbed hose fitting. About $10 at the local hardware store. Disconnect the cold start hose and plug in there, then open the AFM flap and see what you get.
