Since I've been spending lots of quality time with my car this winter leaning into the engine bay, I discovered as I was randomly playing with the throttle linkage that the springs appear to be very weak for the control rod on the side of the throttle body. It doesn't return to rest against the idle screw without some help, which probably explains the high idle on the car that I haven't been able to track down.
I was going to order up some new springs, but it doesn't appear in the parts CD that I can buy individual parts for the throttle body? I'm certainly not going to buy a whole new unit for $800!!

Am I missing a diagram somewhere that shows individual parts including these return springs?

Seems like early cars had two linear springs up top, but later ones didn't. I might be thinking of E21's though, since the intake is so similar in appearance, except for 4 vs 6 that is. If that's what you have, with 2 linear extension springs, just run down to the hardware store and buy a couple. On later ones, or maybe all, I'm not positive, there should be a coil "twist" spring on the throttle body itself, another down on the adapter that bolts on the block on the motor mount, then a linear spring on the accelerator pedal assy under the dash. All of those should be available, one way or another.

Did this start after you re-bushed the throttle / pedal linkage ?Adam W in MN wrote: the springs appear to be very weak for the control rod on the side of the throttle body.
Three E12's and one R27

I didn't check it by hand before that, good idea. I'll disconnect the ball joint to the pedal assembly and see what happens. The high idle has been going on for a while though (last year).alotawatts wrote:Did this start after you re-bushed the throttle / pedal linkage ?Adam W in MN wrote: the springs appear to be very weak for the control rod on the side of the throttle body.
