Has anyone done this job? I looked through the FAQ but couldnt find anything. From what I hear its a pretty big PITA. I really dont have the money to pay someone to fix it and will have to do it myself so any info would be much appreciated.

I expect you know of the above and realoem.com for a.) horrible photos, but free, and b.) basic marching orders. I use the exploded views to remember what nuts and washers go where if I got too frisky and forgot to bag them, with labels and drawings.
The biggest trick of all is to have two E12's. With one together you can cheat off it. Ha !
A long time ago I noticed my gas foot getting wet from the dreaded heater valve, hockey puck thingy attached to the temperature dial. Mr., when I got the kick panel off, took the seat out to wedge my left eye against the floor to try to see the icky little hex nuts,...not one chance in h***.
But I did it.
When my son was about twelve he and a friend decided to mow the lawn to buy five pounds of Gummy Bears. The friend pulled the rope, aimed the mower at the lawn and yelled, " I'm goin' in !"
If you want to save money for Gummy Bears, that's your (wrench aiming) alternative.

Ive looked on Real OEM numerous times however doesnt help to much. the core is placed in the heater box which I believe is connected to the blower? I went through the DIY of the dash removal and in pic 27 (second to last pic) it shows the blower and all that goodness. Is that the heater box? Just picked my car up from my buddy's shop. I able to fix the problem no new heater core needed 
I had a bad leak coming from the send line by the firewall. Turns out that backing plate was pushing the hose off. I removed the plate and was able to get the hose on a bit better. So far so good no more leaks. Im really hoping that this will solve what was going on and its not something more serious. I really have no desire what so ever to replace the core
