Odd radiator

Post by T.Hanson »

On the distributor side of the radiator, are two threaded fittings about eight inches apart one atop the other. Fine threads, no caps or nothin' and they don't leak.

Any ideas what they are, for, if the previous owner just found a 1994 Mazda Honda finned thing that fit and held coolant.

I think, if I recall correctly, my Auto transmission cooler hooked up to something like you mention. Someone might be able to confirm/explain how this works?

Yep, A/T cooling. I've had a few auto radiators in manual cars. I've always meant to get some nice cap but never seem to. It'll lose you points at Pebble Beach, but otherwise it will work fine, with or without fancy caps.

It works by running hot ATF fluid thru not as hot engine coolant. It doesn't work terribly well, witness so many manufacturers going to separate coolers now and it always was recommended to get a stand alone for towing, but it works ok.
