Getrag 265/6 Transmission

I purchased a used/less miles Getrag 265 transmission from Double 02.

I replaced the seals and installed and it leaked all over. I removed the transmission and took to a independent BMW repair shop here in San Rafael. I supplied the seals. I realized my errors but I wanted it done correctly so as not have to do it again.

IT leaked. I removed it today. It is only leaking from the front.

There are six bolts that hold the front case on to the transmission. on the inside there is a seal which goes on counter intuitive, you put it in backwards so that when you put the front case on it slides over the shaft correctly.

The inside seal appears to be working. oil is not coming out of the shaft.

The problem is the oil leaks into the bell housing and last time got onto the disc clutch and smoked and went south.

Any ideas?

I think it can leak from around the "snout" so to speak that the throwout bearing rides on. At least I had it happen on a 262 which is very similar in that area, although not the same. IIRC there is no gasket between that steel sleeve and the casting it's held by. And that's assuming that casting and it's gasket are oil tight.

If you are correct and I understand that the steel sleeve (snout) is pressed in the aluminum plate and if it is no longer oil tight, it will leak.

What would be the fix?

We moved about 6 months ago the old transmission did not make the move along with a lot of other stuff. Of course I would swap out the part.

Edit 1/14/15. I just read about 11 post down Robert Bondi 2014 year in pictures. Included is my problem with the 265.
