Me again all,
In my upgrade to M30B35 motor the E12 oil pick-up is longer (horizontally) and has a bracket on the end to attach it to the main bearing cap in the E12. But the M30B35 bearing cap has no means of attachment.
The E12 oil pick-up doesn't seem heavy enough to cause problems if installed without the extra bracket support. I'm concerned however because BMW might have had good reason for their design.
Are the oil pump attachments adequate to support the pick-up as well without the extra bracket? I hope my question is clear.
Any suggestions welcome.
Regards

Probably. I know they have all sorts of bracing on the intake manifold that arent' really necessary, and the same thing could apply on the oil pickup. But I think I'd try finding the parts, it's an extra saddle IIRC, or even just making a new bracket to support it some. Maybe not as beefy as the original, but something. Again, in all likelyhood it will never be a problem, but what a problem it would be.

it's been several years, but I recall that on my car that support on the oil pickup tube fit one of the rod main cap bolts. I was just overjoyed that the pickup tube fit the new oil pump cuz BMW did make some running improvements over the years. I'm sure the e12 oil pickup attached to the new engine block the same way as on the old engine
