Fixed! The wipers sweep the windshield when the arm that attaches to the motor at just sly of 3 o'clock when looking at it from the front of the car. In other words, the arm is extending the transmission as far away as possible to the drivers side.

Wiper motor/transmission alignment

My transmission failed and I took things apart, found the broken part, ordered it (took a long time from Germany) and now trying to hook the arm on the motor. Can anyone describe or have a picture of how things should line up? Seems like there are infinite possibilities. I tried searching the ...

Windshield Trim Installation

Does the metal chrome trim at the bottom of the front windshield need to be installed inside the rubber gasket BEFORE the windshield and gasket are put in or can it be installed afterward?

I just had the windshield replaced and the chrome piece is not all the way in at the bottom edge of the lower ...

HVAC control lighting

Most of the bulbs that light up the center area of the dash around the heating and cooling control knobs are out. I am wondering before I just start undoing things, how does one get access to them?

Also, would love to know what kind of bulbs to purchase in advance of the project so I can get it ...

Thanks Mike,

I have the assembly out of the transmission and the shaft with the gear easily separated from the bushing.

Trouble is the bushing does not pull apart from the adapter so I can change the shaft seal inside it. Not easy to grip the bushing and I don't want to chew it up with pliers ...

Thanks a lot for the great diagram. Parts are on order.

Any idea how to remove the "bush" to replace the shaft seal? Is it threaded and require a special tool to grab the two notches?

Thanks in advance.

Speedo Drive Gear Seals

I have a pretty good leak where the speedo cable attaches to the 5spd transmission. In addition to drip off the tranny, the fluid is filling up the cable and leaking out of the junction box where the two cables connect.

Question - is there an inside o-ring (or two) as well as the outside on on the ...

The thermostat housing could be leaking or the hoses that attach to it.

If the cam was 180 off, perhaps the valves and pistons were colliding when the engine was turning over and this caused a crack in the head??

Did you retorque the head bolts?

Vacuum Diagram Needed

Cylinder head gasket project is coming to a close. I am in need of a diagram for the vacuum hoses. Nothing exists under the hood and both repair manuals have diagrams for systems that don't match mine.

I have a 1979 528i with no egr and two lines possible on the distributor.

Sure could use some ...

Rocker Shaft Question

I took the head off to replace a gasket leak recently. While getting ready to put things back together, I noticed that one of the rocker shafts is missing what looks like an aluminum plug in the end. Both shafts have plugs at the back of the engine. On the cam sprocket end (front of engine), the ...

Sunroof repair information

Thanks Mike. I am in need of documentation. I have the factory repair manual but as luck would have it the section on the sliding roof is missing. Does anyone know what the best resource is and how I can obtain a copy?

Thanks in advance.

Sunroof Help

My electric roof on a '79 no longer closes all of the way. It seems to get stiff as it nears the closed position. I removed the gear in the mechanism underneath the headliner zipper near the windshield and can now slide it back and forth. I would like to remove the roof panel but cannot see how it ...
